Capstone Project - Last Day

This project was completed on April 12, 2019. We implemented the integration of FX2000 Fire Alarm Panel, TX3 Card Access Panel, Reliable Controller, Flex-Net terminal panel into the OpenGN platform which is a real-time monitoring and management software.

As the demonstration shown in the video below, the card access panel has the remote control and tap functions to open the door strike. Every time the gate is opened, the OpenGN platform will show its location and status on the screen. When there is a fire situation happening in the building, and if someone pulls the pull station, the fire alarm panel will trigger the strobe and siren and release all the gate in the building at the same time. The TX3 panel is also programmed to send a signal to the reliable controller, the controller will provide a 5V voltage from its output to the Belimo actuator which will open the exhaust air damper to discharge the smoke in the building.

Capstone: Day-7

Week 7

Our group has finally reached out to Christian Mircom technician. He will assist on renewing the FX 2000 password by next week.

Today our group worked on installing phone panel and integrating third party devices to the OpenGN. First method we tried was connecting through Modbus with easy IO. In order to generate an XML code we needed to create a string to send to Open gateway.

Another method was through in-suite, connecting to the OpenGN. In-suite needed POE switch to operate and we worked on installing in C527. We are still working on both methods.

Capstone: Day-5

Week 5

Today our objective was to continue integrating each panel with the OpenGN software. Last week we were able to integrate one Card access panel. We continued to integrate all three-card access panel with fire alarm panels to show the location, statues in the OpenGN friendly interface monitor.

All panels connect with the RS 485, which allowed to program CX3 software to communicate each other. One card access panel was set as master which connects to the OpenGN with Ethernet connection through the switch. The remaining two panels was set as slave panels communicating to the master panel. The class room had two main routers and individual router, switches per bench. We struggled through network problem as each panel needed individual IP address to integrate with the OpenGN.

We eventually manage to integrate all three panels to the OpenGN but for ideal configuration we still need to solve networking issue. Three card access panel had two card readers and in the OpenGN software we were able to integrate the location of these readers and the door strike. The fire alarm panels were integrated to the card access panel through the CX3 software with correlation function. To integrate fire alarm panel directly to the OpenGN needs the configuration key and password for FX2000 configuration setting. The matter of this will resolve from either JC or Christian (MIRCOM TECH) also networking issue will be consulted with Professor Paul.

Capstone: Day-4

Week 4

On day-4 We started off by trying the password provided by JC, 1111 or 1234 which didn't work. The password protected file name is “Fxconfig503R2”, we tried to reach out to JC again but did not get any respond. Professor Leo provided an email Christian, who is a Mircom technician. We emailed with the problems we are facing. Our team continued research to find alternative ways to connect the FX 2000.

“Fxconfig503R2” either password 1111 or 1234 didn't work.

The XML generator file doesn't work, as the code-master of OpenGN is expired.

Our team struggled and tried multiple ways to make connection and eventually was able to integrate Card Access Panel to the OpenGN as well as FX 2000 through ethernet connection. But we cannot change the IP without the software.

Capstone: Day-3

Week 3

On day-3 we relocated the OpenGN station to C527 entrance area along with the telephone access panel and mounted it on the wall. We also installed one card reader to one of the access control panel and three card readers at the aisle for each panel. Now all three-access control panel has two card readers for each and is integrated with the system.

As for integrating each system to the OpenGN, The FX2000 configuration needed password to log into settings. Voice message and email sent to JC for access but didn’t get any respond(We will reach him in person Tuesday). RS-232 Cable are needed for each panels to connect to network for communication with OpenGN. Devon was notified with the missing part and is in order. If we do not get the part by day-4, we will be making it. We have also explored new software: Iconic's, we will be working with both OpenGN and Iconics and compare each pro's and cons. We will be working on with iconics software as soon as authorization is approve for demo version

Capstone: Day-2

Week 2

Our team objective on day-2 was to finish remaining installation on fire panel, access control and then move on to integrating these systems to OpenGN software platform. Today we individually explored, practiced with OpenGN software and focused more on researching it to understand how systems will be integrated

Our team received FX2000 from Professor Leo, the OpenGN station is to be moved again to the main entrance of C527 as soon as the area is cleared out. All related manuals and also training video's regards to Mircom devices were found on the Mircom website with JC's account.

Mircom building automation course has been working on communicating both fire panel and access control panels through TX3 software. The wiring and data memories are still in progress for next week Lab. The fact that any system being integrated to OpenGN first needs to be fully configured itself. We individually did critical research to theoretically understand how to commission Fire,Card access panels and DSC system to OpenGN. On Tuesday our group will share each research materials and come up with the best solution on how to commission it. We will proceed with the integration on Day-3 with JC's permission.

Capstone: Day-1

Week 1

First day to start off capstone, the Mircom project group member were assigned. Our group task was to finish installation on card access panel and fire alarm panel in room C527. Majority of our group member were taking Building sub-systems & Integration course, so we had basic knowledge on how these panels worked. With Professor JC’s account we downloaded both systems manual through Mircom website and studied it.

Once we were on the same page, we worked as a team by dividing tasks. Finding sub components on fire panel system and mounting them on the board, configuring how wiring should be completed with both systems and lastly configure/move Open GN system to room C527.We have successfully finished all task, but one of the fire alarm subsystem component was missing, which was reported to Professor Leo.
